HRSB Programs Supporting Diversity

  • Diversity Recruitment Strategies. Report No. 07-10-1082
    October 15, 2007.
  • Race Relations, Cross Cultural Understanding & Human Rights (RCH)
    RCH support for teachers and students includes the identification, development and implementation of programs, learning supports, and strategies to enhance academic achievement and address systemic inequities and barriers affecting racial and ethnocultural groups. (RCH Website).
    RCH includes African Nova Scotian Student Support.  In 2007, the a team of African Scotian Student Workers compiled Have a Dream, a resource to help African Nova Scotians plan for post secondary education.
  • Five Schools Project 2005
    HRSB initiated this program in five schools where literacy levels have been a challenge. These schools would have a high representation of students from low socio-economic circumstances and probably a high representation of students from African Nova Scotian descent. The Superintendent is  collaborating with the principal, vice-principal, and literacy coordinator of each of those five schools along with our Program staff and School Administration staff to try to raise the literacy levels at these schools.
  • Professional Development for all Employees.
    The Diversity Management Coordinator provides professional development sessions for senior staff, central office staff, and school administration to support the Diversity Management Policy and equity goals.
    Funding for Cross Cultural Competence Professional Development.
