Millwood High & Sackville High
Family of Schools Boundary Review

BACKGROUND

On March 28, 2012, the Halifax Regional School passed the following motion:

That the Board recommend to staff a grade reconfiguration for the Sackville and Millwood Families of schools as follows: the high schools accommodate the 9-12, the middle schools accommodate the 6-8 and the elementary schools accommodate the P-5 effective September 2014, and a boundary review take place for all schools within the Sackville Family of schools taking into account the new grade configurations and the existing inventory of schools as soon as possible.

In accordance with policy B.003 Creating School Populations, a boundary review committee has been formed and includes representation from each of the schools potentially affected.

The Creating School Populations policy requires the boundary review committee to hold a public meeting to present an interim proposal and provide an opportunity for public input or other possible suggestions.

next steps

Under the Creating School Populations policy, the boundary review committee will consider the input from the public, prepare its final report and forwarded to the Superintendent.

The Superintendent will refer the Boundary Review Committee’s report to the board with a recommendation.

Upon receipt of the Boundary Review Committee’s report and the Superintendent’s recommendation, the board will determine boundaries for the affected schools.
