Student Registration



HRSB Registration will take place from
February 1, 2010 to March 1, 2010

 
Students will register for all programs (English and French Immersion) at the school serving the area (neighbourhood) in which they reside.

Primary Program

  • A child must have reached his/her fifth birthday on or before December 31, 2010.
  • Parents/guardians must present the child’s birth certificate, proof of residence, health card number and expiry date at the time of registration.
  • Each school will publicize its dates for primary orientation.

Early French Immersion Program

  • The Early French Immersion Program is available to students who live within areas of eligibility of the Halifax Regional School Board and who register by March 1, 2010.
  • For further information regarding eligibility, click here or contact the principal of your neighbourhood school.

Grade Seven

  • Registration will take place at the elementary school the student currently attends.
  • Each school will publicize its dates for student orientation.

Grade Seven Late French Immersion

  • The Late French Immersion Program is available to students who live within areas of eligibility of the Halifax Regional School Board and who register by March 1, 2010.
  • For further information regarding eligibility, click here or contact the principal of your neighbourhood school.

Grade Ten

  • Registration will take place at the junior high school the student currently attends.
  • Each school will publicize its dates for student orientation and course selection.

Out of Area Requests

  • Parents/guardians may seek placement for their child in a school outside of the neighbourhood in which they reside under the guidelines of the Creating School Populations Policy.
  • Parents/guardians may obtain Out-of-Area Request forms at their child's neighbourhood school.
  • Parents/guardians must forward Out-of-Area Requests to the requested school on or after April 1, 2010.

Early Learning Opportunities Program

  • This program is offered at Harbour View, Joseph Howe, Nelson Whynder, Rockingstone
    Heights and South Woodside schools.
  • Only children living within the boundaries of these schools, as well as St. Joseph’s–A. McKay
    and St. Patrick’s–Alexandra, may register for the program. Students living within the
    boundaries of St. Joseph’s–A. McKay and St. Patrick’s–Alexandra must register for the program at Joseph Howe.
  • To be eligible, a child must have reached his/her fourth birthday on or before December 31,2010. Out-of-Area requests do not apply for the Early Learning Opportunities program.

Why is registration held so early?
Registration is conducted in February. Schools need accurate registration information to ensure appropriate resources are in schools by September.

How do I register my child?
Complete a registration form - print from the list below or pick one up from your local school.

The school will need:

  • proof of residency such as a current utility bill, driver's license, lease agreement, etc.
  • proof of your child's date of birth 
  • the completed registration form (including your child's Nova Scotia Health Card)
How do I know which school my child should attend?

Where can I find more information on my child's school?

  • You can access the School Finder tool on the left side of our home page.
  • Select the school name from the drop down menu, then click the "GO" button.
  • Additional information is also available by choosing: Departments, School Administration, School Directory.

What child care options are there?
Several school locations operate EXCEL child care programs.

  • Early registration for current participants (Students enrolled in 2009-2010) in the Before and/or After school program will be held on April 26 through April 30, 2010.
  • General registration for all new program applicants will begin on Monday, May 3 at 8 am.
  • Priority enrollment will be offered to those applicants enrolling in full-time (5 days per week) combination programs, followed by part-time enrollees based on the desired number of days.  The date and time applications are received by EXCEL will also be considered when comparing applications with an equal number of day requirements.

Parents/guardians registering their son/daughter for grade Primary must be 5 years of age on or before December 31, 2010 and show a Birth Certificate or Passport verifying this to school personnel.
