Partnerships
English as a Second Language (ESL)
The Halifax Regional School Board has agreements with the federal department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada to act as the service provider for adult ESL programs in our municipality. The programs offered by the Board are fully funded by the Federal Government through these contribution agreements.
Our Financial Services Department provides all the grant administration and accounting requirements for these agreements. The ESL programs offered include:
Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
The goal of this program is to facilitate the social, cultural and economic integration of immigrants and refugees to Canada through development of English language skills. The curriculum also allows newcomers to become oriented to the local area and the Canadian way of life.
The LINC programs are offered at three different locations in HRM:
- Levels 1 to 5 (low to advanced English) are offered on a full time basis at the Quinpool Education Centre (former St. Patrick's High School), 6067 Quinpool Road, Halifax, Monday to Friday. Contact Judy MacIntyre by phone 421-7779 or by email judymac@staff.ednet.ns.ca for both Halifax programs.
- Levels 4, 5a (low advanced English) and 5b (high advanced English) are offered at St. Agnes Church, Mumford Road, Halifax, Monday to Thursday
- Literacy to advanced level five is located in Dartmouth and is offered Monday to Friday mornings at the Forsyth Adult Learning Centre 136 Pinecrest Drive, Dartmouth. The program contact is Ann Guy (464-2868) or by e-mail at annguy@staff.ednet.ns.ca

Canadian Connections Program
